As our pets live longer lives, they may succumb to more and more medical conditions that are treatable. Treatments are available for conditions such as arthritis, endocrine disorders, organ insufficiencies, cancer and dental disease thereby minimizing their effects on your beloved pet. Many of these treatments include nutritional supplements, medications, environmental modification and therapeutic diets. Dr. Carnathan and Dr. Bass will spend the time explaining these conditions, often providing reading material further describing these conditions for you. Together, we can determine what will be best for you and your pet after evaluating all the options. Proper pet care is essential to happy golden years.
Preventative and Diagnostic Laboratory Testing
Bayshore Animal Hospital has the ability to perform in house laboratory testing including blood gas, electrolytes, CBC, internal organ profile, heartworm test and more. The results are ready in a matter of minutes and that can be important in determining a proper and accurate treatment plan for your pet. "Bloodwork", also known as laboratory testing, is essential in attempting to prevent many conditions that your pet may face in his life. We encourage yearly bloodwork in conjunction with your pet's annual physical examination every year. This becomes more important each year your cat or dog ages. These days, if many conditions are discovered early and before your pet becomes showing symptoms, we can begin treating as soon as possible. By doing this many times a positive outcome is more likely to be obtained, plus it saves in the costs of treatment. Routine bloodwork is essential to your pet's health and longevity.
Here, we offer a wide variety of surgical proceedures. Most ophthalmic, orthopedic, abdominal, and dermatological surgeries are commonly performed by Dr. Bass and Dr. Carnathan if a patient is in need. Monday through Thursday may be considered for a surgical proceedure with Wednesday and Thursday being our primary surgical days. Your pet will recieve take-home instructions detailing any care you have to give along with any appropriate mediations following a surgery. We also perform routine spays, neuters, and feline declawings at an affordable price. During any surgical proceedure, your pet has a full preanesthetic exam, IV catheter and fluid support, and is fully monitored to ensure the safety of every pet. Any recheck appointment pertaining to the surgery is typically at no charge to the client unless additional medications are needed.
Maintaining your pet’s vaccinations is critical in the ongoing battle against preventable diseases. Not all pets will require the same vaccinations. Dr. Bass and Dr. Carnathan will discuss with you what best fits your pet’s lifestyle. We do offer some vaccinations that are effective for more than one year for our adult pets as well as vaccine antibody titers. While puppies and kittens need a series of boosters to build their immune system, we may offer a vaccine titer check to ensure that your young pet is fully protected.
Echocardiogram is the “gold standard” in diagnosing and managing heart disease in dogs and cats. Using this diagnostic tool, we fine tune your pet’s medication so that they are receiving the appropriate care. Bayshore Animal Hospital is privileged to incorporate the services of a board certified veterinary cardiologist available by advance appointment. This easy, painless procedure is done while your pet is awake here at the clinic. Dr. Carnathan will help answer any questions you may have about your pet’s heart disease as well as schedule the procedure if it is necessary to determine the appropriate treatment.
High quality radiography is essential in screening for and diagnosing dozens of conditions in dogs and cats. Radiographs are usually quick and easy for your pet. We make sure to show you the x-rays and communicate the findings with you in the examination room.
Medications and Supplements
Bayshore Animal Hospital believes in using as little medication as medically necessary. We also advocate the use of nutritional supplements in effort to minimize the need for extra medications. Our pharmacy contains an array of medications to treat and cure almost any medical or surgical condition your pet may be faced with. We are honest and judicious with the use of our medications and are available to discuss with you fully all aspects of your pet’s medications.
