Bayshore Animal Hospital does not currently routinely vaccinate all dogs with canine influenza vaccine, only at risk pets do we recommend this vaccination.  There are known metropolitan areas where Canine Influenza has been reported including Atlanta and New York City.  There is currently a rise in the cases seen in the state of Pennsylvania.  We recommend show dogs and pets that frequent kennels often get vaccinated yearly as well as pets that live in areas where cases have been reported in the past.  No side effects have been reported or seen associated with this vaccine.  It mainly works to decrease the severity of the symptoms, especially minimizing the risk of pneumonia for your pet.  For any questions, please feel free to call our office and Dr. Carnathan will be happy to answer them.
